Red Deer, AB – With a home victory Friday evening against the Broncos, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens sealed a spot in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Championship final.

The home team received goals from Alesha Santos and Camryn Wallan and dropped the Olds College Broncos 2-1 at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

After a scoreless opening period, the Queens struck on the power play about midway through the middle fame. With traffic in front, defender Santos beat Broncos netminder Cienna Kinghorn from the point. Beaverlodge's Wallan started the play by winning the offensive face-off, picking up an assist. Lloydminster's Bryn Pollard had the other helper.

Wallan (21)

Two minutes into the third period, captain Wallan gave the home team a two goal cushion. On a two-on-one, Pollard made a nice pass to Wallan and the Bachelor of Education Middle School student beat Kinghorn on the glove side. Saskatoon's Madison Sansom also had a helper.

With 8:24 left in the period, Broncos Player of the Game Keera Tiringer was the lone member of Olds College who was able to beat Queens netminder Izzy Palumbo. Tiringer pounced on a loose puck in front, recording her third goal of the season.

First-year Santos was named the North Star Sports Queens Player of the Game, scoring her first goal in the ACAC. She also has four assists.

Palumbo (31)

Palumbo stopped 22 shots. The first-year goaltender now has a 1.44 goals against average and 0.954 save percentage.

Kinghorn made 24 saves.

The Queens went one-for-six on the power play. The Broncos couldn't convert on six opportunities.

The first place Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (11-2-2) will receive a trip to the best-of-five ACAC final. The NAIT Ooks and Olds College Broncos will play a best-of-three semi-final series.
