NAIT Ooks take season opener over Red Deer Polytechnic Queens in Edmonton

Edmonton, AB - The NAIT Ooks used a three point performance from Brittney Savard to down the visiting Red Deer Polytechnic Queens 4-1 in the first game of the season. 

Former Queen, Bre Martin put NAIT on the board 4:33 into the game. Savard had an assist.

NAIT's Cass Lyttle found room behind Queens goaltender Madison Fox a minute into the middle frame after being set up by Savard. RDP's Natalie Buttle reduced the Ooks' lead to one only 34 seconds later. It was the Bachelor of Kinesiology student's first regular season goal in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC).

At 4:43 of the third period, Taylor Premak restored the home team's two goal cushion. 

With 3:26 left in the contest, Savard added a power play marker and the NAIT Ooks wrapped up a 4-1 decision. 

The Ooks outshot the Queens 32-17. 

Kaitlyn Slator made 16 saves in NAIT's net. Madison Fox turned aside 28 shots. 

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens went zero-for-three on the power play. The NAIT Ooks converted once on three opportunities.

Natalie Buttle was named the Queens Player of the Game.

The RDP Queens (0-1-0) will host the Olds College Broncos (1-0-0) on Thursday, November 18 at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre at 7 pm.
