Balanced Kings' attack too much for Lions

Red Deer, AB – The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Soccer team received contributions from the entire lineup Friday afternoon against the Ambrose University Lions.
With strong defensive play and eight different scorers, including a three-goal performance from forward Pedro Humberto Mourao Neto, the RDP Kings picked up a convincing 10-0 win over the visitors.
"I thought Ambrose came out pretty well at the beginning," said Gerald Grobmeier, Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Soccer Head Coach. "They had an early chance that could have put us under pressure, but our keeper Jared made a big save."
In the 14th minute, Red Deer Polytechnic Kings first-year defender Wataru Oguchi opened the scoring.
Teammates Masoum Zaher and Pedro Humberto Mourao Neto added goals throughout the first half, putting the home team up 3-0 at the break.
"We got the first goal and the second and third started coming, and you could see the game started to get more difficult for Ambrose," said Grobmeier. "It started opening up for our guys and the pace that they played, especially in the second half, Ambrose was having difficulty keeping up with that."
Over the final 45 minutes, Kirk Moody, Isaiah Albright, Gabriel Fleury de Queiroz, Thomson Wellie and Hayden Jacobs added goals. Pedro Humberto Mourao Neto, a Kinesiology Fitness and Health student, picked up a pair, helping the Kings seal a 10-0 decision.
Moody (12) and Oguchi (5)
Pedro Humberto Mourao Neto was selected as the North Star Sports Kings Player of the Game. The third-year forward from Brazil led Red Deer Polytechnic with three goals over 77 minutes.
"Pedro scored some very important goals for us. Even though it was 3-0, it was a goal that started to put the game away in our favour," said Grobmeier. "He is very strong on the ball. He turns very well and is always looking to score. I know he was a bit disappointed – he felt that he could have scored more today, but a hat trick is pretty good in soccer."
Neto (10)
Nathan Yeung, a first-year Biology student from Nanaimo, earned the award for the Lions, playing a solid game on defence.
Lions goalkeeper Dayton Mcleay made four saves. Jared St Thomas, a Kinesiology Fitness and Health student, had to make only one save in the Kings' net, but it was timely.
The first place Red Deer Polytechnic Kings (3-0-1) will host the second seed SAIT Trojans (3-0-0) on Friday, October 8 at 4 pm. After that contest, the King will have one game remaining against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (1-2-0).
The top six teams in each division will qualify for the playoffs.
