New coach to lead the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Basketball program
The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Kings Basketball team will have a new leader starting in the 2026-27 season. Anthony Skepple has been named the head coach of the RDP Kings.
"I am excited to welcome Anthony to RDP," says Randy Stewart, Manager, Athletics and Student Life, Red Deer Polytechnic. "Along with his wealth of post-secondary playing and coaching experience, Anthony has the ability to bring out the best in the student-athletes, both on and off the court."
Skepple coached the Briercrest College Clippers Women's Basketball team from 2020-25, leading the squad to a pair of ACAC bronze medals. He was also named the 2023 ACAC Women's Basketball South Coach of the Year after helping the Clippers improve to 13-8 from 4-12 the previous season.
Skepple also has coaching experience at the professional level. In April 2025, he assumed an assistant coaching role with the Saskatchewan Rattlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League.
"I'm excited about joining the Kings program and having the opportunity to help grow this young core," says Skepple, who is from Edmonton and whose wife hails from Rocky Mountain House. "For us the move just made sense and we are excited to have an impact on not only this program but also on this community."
A former student-athlete, Skepple played basketball with The King's University Eagles and views success as something that extends beyond statistics.
"The most important thing to me is developing great people," he says. "People who RDP can be proud to call alumni, who compete hard on the court and who leave RDP better than when they came."
Skepple will begin his head coaching duties on May 4, providing the opportunity to fill the remaining spots on the Kings' roster.
Last season, the young Kings, who were primarily first and second-year student-athletes, finished with a 2-19 regular season record, averaging 65 points per game. One key returning student-athlete is Donovan Snider, a six-foot-five forward who was named the 2025-26 Kings MVP.
