Kalbfleisch plays heroe as Queens drop Kodiaks in overtime, advance to division finals

Lethbridge, AB - The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Soccer team needed a strong performance against the Lethbridge College Kodiaks Sunday afternoon to extend its season.
After trailing 1-0 at the half, the Queens dug deep, tied the game, and first-year midfielder Paige Kalbfleisch scored the game winner, propelling Red Deer Polytechnic to a huge 2-1 victory. With the win, the Queens advanced to the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) South Division finals.
Lethbridge College hit the scoreboard first.
In the eighth minute, Ashley Sazalski went around Queens goalkeeper Danyelle Bouvier and found open cage for an early 1-0 lead.
Shortly after, Queens forward Alisha Coules, a Bachelor of Science Nursing student, pushed for the equalizer, but Kodiaks goalkeeper Kara Kamai made an amazing save.

The Kodiaks maintained that edge at the half.
Red Deer Polytechnic had a tremendous opportunity to pull even with a penalty shot but Kamai read the shot perfectly and deflected the shot away with her outstretched hand.
The visitors continued to press and in the 78th minute they drew even. Queens first-year forward Jenica Swartz solved Kamai, knotting the contest 1-1. With no winner after 90 minutes, the ACAC South Division semi-final needed overtime.

The first 15 minutes of overtime didn't produce a victor, so another 15 minute frame was added to the clock.
In the 105th minute, Queens defender Jaden Humphrey rang a shot off the post but Kalbfleisch was well-positioned to push the visitors ahead 2-1. Red Deer Polytechnic shut the door the rest of the game and wrapped up a 2-1 victory.
The Queens outshot the Kodiaks 13-9.

With the game-winning-goal and an assist, Sherwood Park's Kalbfleisch was named the Queens Player of the Game. Kamai was named the Kodiaks top performer.
In the other south semi-final match, SAIT blanked Medicine Hat College 5-0. NAIT and Concordia University will clash in the ACAC North final.
The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens will play the SAIT Trojans in Calgary in the ACAC Women's Soccer South Division final on Saturday, October 23.
