Indoor Track Kings take first, Queens second at Grand Prix #1

Edmonton, AB – It was a magnificent start to the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Indoor Track season for the RDC team. The Kings showed they will be a force, placing first among the male teams. The Queens also had a strong day and sat in second spot among the women at the conclusion of Running Room Grand Prix #1.
The Red Deer College Kings earned 67 team points. MacEwan University (41 points) and Concordia University (29) followed.
The Griffins' Caelen Begg (36.17) and Connor Swaby (38.39) led the men's 300 m. The Kodiaks' James Marriner (38.69) picked up third.
Stephen Rowley (1:30.76), from the Kings, wrapped up third spot in the 600 m, only 0.19 seconds behind SAIT's Brant Lauweryssen (1:30.57). Michael Stewart (1:25.09), of the Trojans, led the pack.
Following Concordia's Leonard Chesoo (2:32.10), RDC's Will Cebuliak (2:45.33) and Stephen Rowley (2:48.31) rounded out the top three over 1,000 m.
Leonard Chesoo (4:00.30) paced the men's 1,500 m. The Kings' Daniel Szucs (4:27.96) and Will Cebuliak (4:29.39) sealed second and third.
The top two runners in the men's 3,000 m were RDC Kings. Devin Saunders (9:17.52) placed first and teammate Daniel Szucs (9:25.06) was less than eight seconds behind in second. Cooper Cheshire from the Kodiaks took third (9:49.63).
The RDC Kings (Axsivier Lawrence, Will Cebuliak, Mustaph Yekini-Oladosu and Stephen Rowley) placed second in the 4 x 400 m relay, finishing in 3:48.55. The Griffins (3:43.93) grabbed first and the Thunder (3:55.45) wrapped up third.
As a team, the Red Deer College Queens placed second with 48 team points. At the end of the day, the host MacEwan University Griffins (85 points) sat at the top. The Lethbridge College Kodiaks (31) trailed the Queens by 17.
RDC's Shayla Sklaruk (44.38) finished the women's 300 m with the fastest time. MacEwan's Ember Large (45.82) and Lethbridge College's Millie Stafford (46.03) followed.
After MacEwan University's Ember Large (1:43.54), RDC's Shaelyn Moltzahn (1:46.29) was less than three second behind over 600 m. Jasmin Salmon (1:47.15) from Lethbridge College solidified third.

In the women's 1,000 m, the Griffins finished first and second. The Kodiaks took third.
MacEwan, SAIT and Concordia crossed the line in consecutive order in the women's 1,500 m.
MacEwan University captured the top three spots in the women's 3,000 m.
The Red Deer College Queens (Lauren Pasiuk, Shayla Skalruk, Bobbie Osborne and Shaelyn Moltzahn) won third in the 4 x 400 m relay with a time of 4:33.53. MacEwan University (4:23.82) and Lethbridge College (4:30.99) led the way.
RDC will host Running Room Grand Prix #2 on Saturday, March 7.
