Boston Pizza RDP Athlete of the Week for September 23, 2024

Melissa Ray has continued to demonstrate that she is among the top female runners in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) this season. At Running Room Grand Prix #3, Ray (26:41), a Bachelor of Science in Nursing student, placed fourth among her peers over 6 km. She only trailed third place Kerigan Frampton of SAIT by five seconds.

Ray’s performance helped to lead the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Cross Country Running team to first place with 29 team points in Lethbridge.

On September 28, Ray and the Queens will look to deliver another conference-leading performance at Running Room Grand Prix #4 hosted by St. Mary’s University in Calgary.

Boston Pizza RDP Athlete of the Week for September 16, 2024

Melissa Ray, a fourth-year student-athlete, had a tremendous start to the 2024/2025 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Cross Country Running season. At Grand Prix #1, she led the RDP Queens (34 points) to first place at Gold Bar Park in Edmonton. Ray, a talented student-athlete from Three Hills, finished sixth (27:32) among ACAC female competitors in the 6 km race, helping to set the tone for an exceptional day and promising season.

After a brief absence from ACAC competition, Ray returned to the Polytechnic this year to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and contribute to the RDP Cross Country Running team. She has already made her mark as a key returning member to the Queens.

Ray and the Red Deer Polytechnic Cross Country Running team will not participate in Grand Prix #2, but will prepare for Grand Prix #3 in Lethbridge September 21.
