RDC Indoor Track team places first at Grand Prix #2

Edmonton, AB – As the results from the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Running Room Grand Prix #2 were finalized, the Red Deer College Indoor Track team took top spot using the women's and men's combined scores.

The Queens were superb, leading all of the women's teams. Shayla Skalurk had an impressive day, earning first in a pair of events. In the women's 300 metre final, Sklaruk took top spot (42.65), over three seconds faster than Shaunice Burgers (46.02) of MacEwan University. Sklaruk (1:41.24) also took first in the 600 m, crossing the finish line over five seconds faster than Grande Prairie Regional College's Anna Van Der Giessen (1:46.59).

The RDC Queens had a tremendous performance in the 1,500 m. Sandra Garcia-Bernal (5:06.22), who's a member of Queens Basketball, took top spot in her first ACAC race and Jill Stewart (5:11.38) was third. Stewart (10:50.99) was first in the women's 3,000 m final, impressively over 41 seconds faster than second place Ann Danard (11:32.66) from SAIT. The Queens 4 x 400 m relay team (4:21.12), consisting of Shayla Sklaruk, Sandra Garcia-Bernal, Lauren Pasiuk and Jill Stewart, earned first place. They were over two seconds faster than MacEwan University (4:23.40).

The Kings ended the day with many strong efforts.

Stephen Rowley (2:08.68) wrapped up third in the men's 800 m final. Matt Hope (4:06.44) raced to third in the men's 1,500 m. Over 3,000 m, Devin Saunders (9:28.99) captured third. Jakob Vollmerhaus, Carson Schiller, Matt Hope and Stephen Rowley comprised the third place Kings, who participated in the men's 4 x 400 m final (3:43.48).

The RDC Indoor Track team will now prepare for the ACAC Indoor Track Championships from March 15-16 in Calgary. SAIT will host the event at Repsol Sport Centre.
