In late December, there will be some exciting exhibition games involving Red Deer College teams. The RDC Kings Volleyball team will host the Kings Christmas Tournament from December 28-30 at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre, featuring some of the top men's volleyball teams from across the nation. This tournament will give fans an early look at potential matchups at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Volleyball National Championship in early March.

The Fanshawe Falcons (Ontario Colleges Athletic Association), Keyano College Huskies (Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference), Limoilou Titans (Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec) and Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners of the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PacWest) will be competing in the tournament.

Tickets to the Kings Christmas Tournament can be purchased online and they would make a perfect gift for any volleyball fan.

The Red Deer College Queens Basketball team will participate in the North-South Challenge Tournament, from December 28-29 in Edmonton.

Here is a summary of the non-conference games that will be played in late December.

Kings Christmas Tournament | Friday, Dec. 28 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

Third-year power hitter Ben Holmes reflected on the Kings' first 12 matches of the season. "To be 8-4 isn't a bad record but it's not quite where we want to be," he says. "We played better as the first half finished, winning five matches in a row, and we are moving in the right direction."

The Bachelor of Arts Psychology student views the Kings Volleyball Christmas Tournament as a good litmus test against some of the other top men's collegiate volleyball teams across Canada. "We can look at the records of the other teams but it is hard to compare without competing against each other," says Holmes. "This tournament will give us an opportunity to see where we are at, what we need to work on, and where we need to be come March."
