The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) announced Dshawn Tyrell of the Red Deer College Kings has been named to the 2017 - 18 Men's Basketball South First All-Conference team.
This season, Tyrell has been an effective contributor and helped the Kings reach the postseason with a 14-7 record in the south. The first-year guard was close behind teammate Omon Ebobar in league scoring. Tyrell, a Cook Apprenticeship student, finished seventh in ACAC Men's Basketball with 17.8 points per game. The student-athlete from Malton, Ontario added 7.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and shot 48% from the field.
"I was really happy for Dshawn to earn an all-star award. To earn a First All-Conference team selection shows the respect that he has garnered from coaches and players around the league," says Clayton Pottinger, Head Coach of the RDC Kings. "He's one of the most explosive athletes and has demonstrated his ability to shoot, rebound and play with energy. He's had some really big games for us and made some of the most exciting plays that we've seen in the last few years."
Tyrell received his award at the ACAC Men's Basketball Banquet & Awards Presentations, February 28, at the Lethbridge Lodge. The RDC Kings will be participating at the ACAC Men's Basketball Championship, March 1 to 3, at Lethbridge College. The Red Deer College Kings will compete against the NAIT Ooks, Thursday, March 1 at 1:00 p.m. to kick off their championship weekend.
