The Red Deer College Cross-Country Running team had another solid day, this time at the Grand Prix #2 in Calgary hosted by SAIT and St. Mary's University. Today Lethbridge College entered the race which added another competitive dynamic. The course was in great condition allowing for some favourable times.
Jordanna Cota had another tremendous day. Cota finished 2nd out of the ACAC women runners, completing the 5 km course in 20:05. Twelve seconds later Jill Stewart crossed the finish line 3rd with a time of 20:17. Amy Severtson came in 7th place at 21:11. Janaya Garbe from Red Deer finished 13th, Sam Debree in 15th place while Laura Szymanek finished 18th.
As a team the RDC women finished 1st overall out of the ACAC competitors while the men finished 4th.
Devon Gurney finished 12th overall out of the ACAC men competitors on the 8 km course with a time of 31:41. Seven seconds later Nolan Dyck finished the course in 31:48 for 14th. Corey DeRaadt came in 18th place with a time of 32:29. Jeffrey Willloughby finished in 21st place, while recent addition Nathan Goode completed the course in 23rd place. Goode, who is from Lacombe, is a Bachelor of Science student.
Head Coach Kari Elliott was pleased with the results but noted that Lethbridge College added to the competition at Grand Prix #2.
"One difference today is that Lethbridge College joined the competition and they are a talented group," said Elliott.
There were some remarkable times today and the head coach praised first year Jill Stewart on an amazing race.
"Jill Stewart had a great race today. She was outstanding and achieved her personal best," said Elliott. "Her time was very close to Jordanna's and 3rd overall out of the ACAC women runners."
Saturday, September 24, the RDC Cross-Country Running team will participate in Cross-Country Running Grand Prix #3 hosted by Lakeland College.
