Day 1 at the ACAC Indoor Track Championships in Lethbridge is in the books and several Red Deer College runners had strong performances. RDC's Jordanna Cota earned a silver medal in the women's 3,000 metre finals and earned 8 points for RDC. Cota finished in 11:08.13, less than 7 seconds behind 1st place Hannah Leggart of MacEwan University. In the men's 3,000 metre finals, Adam Wass completed the race in 10:14.63 (7th) and picked up 2 team points.
In the women's 1,000 metre finals, Amy Severtson earned 5 points, placed 4th and narrowly missed a medal (3:18.43). Placing 6th and picking up 3 points for RDC, Nolan Dyck completed the men's 1,000 metre race in 2:55.96. Teammate, Jeff Willoughby was less than 1 second behind (2:56.75) in 8th and earned 2 points.
Sadie Borgfjord displayed her speed and placed 4th in the women's 300 metre dash finals (44.40) and earned 5 points. Nathan Goode was the top RDC male runner in the men's 300 metre dash and finished the race in 40.33 (5th) and added 4 points for RDC.
The RDC runners competed hard on the opening day and will look to build upon their success on the 2nd day of competition. Day 2 continues on Saturday. The events remaining are the: women's and men's 600 metre dash, women's and men's 1,500 metres and women's and men's 4 x 400 metre relay.
