This Week in RDC Athletics

The RDC Basketball teams will play a home-and-home series against the SAIT Trojans. The Hockey Kings will face-off against the Trojans in a pair of games and both Red Deer College Volleyball squads will compete against the Ambrose University Lions in two matches.

Here is a summary of what is happening this week in RDC Athletics.

 

Queens Basketball | Friday, February 9 | 6:00 p.m. | RDC

The RDC Queens (8-7) will compete against the SAIT Trojans (13-1) at home. The Queens have won 6 of their past 7 games and are playing well. This past weekend, the RDC Queens picked up two wins against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers who are ranked fifth in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), and teams around the league took notice.

The Queens still have 6 games remaining in the regular season. The surging RDC Queens will look to continue their strong play with 12 points in the standings still available to be won. Fourth place St. Mary's University is only 4 points up on the Red Deer College Queens in the standings and the two teams will face each other February 23 and 24, the final weekend of regular season play.

Emily White is one of many key contributors for the Queens. The Management Certificate student has averaged 10.6 rebounds per game which is fourth best in the league. The third-year forward has shot 56.6% from the field which ranks third in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Basketball.

Queens Basketball | Saturday, February 10 | 1:00 p.m. | SAIT

The venue will shift to Calgary as the Trojans will entertain the Queens.

 

Kings Basketball | Friday, February 9 | 8:00 p.m. | RDC

The third place RDC Kings (9-6) will face the first place SAIT Trojans (13-1) at RDC. The Trojans are in top spot in the south but they recently dropped a 90-77 decision to the fifth place Lethbridge College Kodiaks (7-7) on February 1.

Omon Edobar continues to have a hot hand for the Kings. The first-year guard has averaged 20.5 points per game which ranks third in the league.

The Kings have been strong on the boards and they lead the league with 49.5 rebounds per game.

Kings Basketball | Saturday, February 10 | 3:00 p.m. | SAIT

The RDC Kings will look to earn a road victory against the Trojans in Calgary.

 

Kings Hockey | Friday, February 9 | 7:00 p.m. | SAIT

The second place Red Deer College Kings Hockey team (15-6-1-0) will face the third place SAIT Trojans (14-6-1-1). The Kings have 31 points and the Trojans are 1 point behind in the standings. In their past ten games, the Kings are 7-3. The RDC Kings have continued their strong defensive play and they have allowed only 2.50 goals against which is second best in the league. 

Kings Hockey | Saturday, February 8 | 8:00 p.m. | Penhold Multiplex

In a rematch, the Kings will compete against the Trojans at home. Please note that game time is 8:00 p.m.

 

Queens Volleyball | Thursday, February 8 | 6:00 p.m. | Ambrose University

The second place RDC Queens (15-5) will hit the court to face the third place Ambrose University Lions (13-7) on the road. As a team, the Queens have averaged 1.82 service aces per set over 20 matches. The Red Deer College Queens are ranked ninth in the CCAA.

Queens Volleyball | Saturday, February 10 | 6:00 p.m. | RDC

The Red Deer Queens will host the Ambrose University Lions in a weekend rematch.

 

Kings Volleyball | Thursday, February 8 | 8:00 p.m. | Ambrose University

The Red Deer College Kings (11-9) will compete against the Ambrose University Lions (4-16). As a team, the Kings have averaged 8.13 digs per set. 

Kings Volleyball | Saturday, February 10 | 8:00 p.m. | RDC

The Kings will play the Lions in the RDC Main Gym.
