After earning an Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) gold medal as the top men's golf team, the Red Deer College Kings earned a spot in the 2017 PING Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf National Championships. Cole Morrison, Logan Hill, Justin Loro, Clayton Dunn and Cody Clipperton will represent the RDC Kings, October 17 – 20, at Royal Ashburn Golf Club in Whitby, Ontario. Shaye Leidenius, an individual gold medal winner at the ACAC Golf Championships, will also compete in the championships for Red Deer College. Leidenius was named the 2017 – 18 ACAC Women's Golf Player of the Year.

RDC Golf Head Coach Scott Bergdahl is unable to attend and Jeff Willmer will be the acting coach in Whitby. The RDC golfers are prepared and will plan to use the experience gained from last year. "The team has been practicing hard in preparation for nationals," said Willmer. "Our leaders, Cole and Shaye will play a huge role as they both have been there last year and they will be key contributors in preparing the rest of the team."

Relaxing and focusing on the present will be key for the student-athletes. "Rest will be important as the two hour time change will be tough," said Willmer. "If we make sure that we are well rested and not get too far ahead of ourselves then we will be fine. Our team is very talented and I think that we can compete for a medal."

The Red Deer College golfers will fly out on Saturday, October 14. The championships will take place from Tuesday, October 17 - Friday, October 20. Durham College will host the national competition.
