The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Volleyball season will begin this week and the Red Deer College Kings will raise an incredible 13th Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Volleyball National Championship banner this Friday. The RDC Queens and Kings Volleyball teams will host the Briercrest College Clippers in a pair of matches this weekend. Both hockey teams will play a home-and-home series. The Queens and Kings Soccer teams will play 2 home games and the RDC Cross-Country Running team will compete in Camrose at Grand Prix #5.

Here is a look at what is happening this week in RDC Athletics.

Queens Volleyball | Friday, October 13 | 6:00 p.m. | RDC

The Red Deer College Queens will begin the 2017 – 18 ACAC Volleyball season at home against the Briercrest College Clippers. Last season, the Queens and Clippers battled for top spot in the ACAC Women's Volleyball South Division and the RDC Queens finished in first. Both teams will be very competitive once again.

Chris Wandler enters his second year as the head coach of the RDC Queens and is pleased with how the team is coming together. "In the early going, I am very excited how closely knit this team is. In a short period of time, the returning student-athletes have found ways to bring the rookies into the group in an inclusive manner," said Wandler. "I believe that is what led to some of our early success in pre-season - that cohesiveness."

In 5 non-conference games, the Queens were a perfect 5-0.

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Volleyball National Championship banner will be raised in the RDC Main Gym as the Kings will celebrate their 13th national championship in front of the home crowd.

Kings Volleyball Head Coach Aaron Schulha likes the chemistry among this year's group. "Our depth is really important and so is the positive attitude. The team is really coming together," said Schulha. "We have 10 new bodies from last year and they've gelled quickly. It's a close group that holds each other accountable."

If the exhibition games are a glimpse of success this season, then the RDC Kings are on the right track once again. Over eight non-conference games, the Kings notably racked up a 7-1 record. "I've been pretty impressed with what we are doing so far and we just want to continue to improve," said Schulha.
